Santorini is a special place because of the volcano and the architecture. In Crete just stay away from the capital (Irakleio) one of the ugliest cities in all Greece! Except for this, you will find in Crete beautiful nature and cities. I like Rethymno and Chania, but you can tour the whole island since it is not that large! Go also to Knossos – but there, or in Athens, or anywhere in places with antiquities, try to get rid of the tourist habit:

Don’t visit Greece in the same manner as you visit India or China! – try to see here the birth of the European / Western culture, the love for thinking, an art that celebrates the beauty of humanity, the beauty of the human person above all creatures, the very understanding of God in terms of an ideal humanity.

You will find beauty almost everywhere you go. You will find also museums, etc. All your pleasure depends not to your specific destinations, but rather to your disposition.

Any means you can use to travel — plane, dolphins, etc, — is safe and comfortable, just select what suits you best. If you drive, rent a car, especially when you are in Crete.

In Athens don’t miss the new museum, and visit Acropolis having a copy of Plato with you. Read some paragraphs when you are up there, and discover the harmony of the monument in the harmony of Plato’s thinking, and the opposite.
