Roger Hodgson Concert in Athens – October 2008

If October finds you in Athens, perhaps you wouldn’t like to miss the Roger Hodgson concert – Badminton theatre, 2 days (October 10 and 11), at 9 o’clock. The vocalist of Supertramp does not belong to the long series of former stars who try desperately to keep themselves in the talk of the town. He is decent, he loves his music and he has the gift of a voice that refuses to grow old.
His voice maybe is responsible to a great extent for the success of the Supertramp – a soprano, adolescent, and fresh voice – you think you are young again just by listening to him. Breakfast in America became the most popular album ever.
I don’t know who is (are) going to support him on stage. At the Montreal concert (2006) he had just one friend playing (occasionally) sax, while himself played the piano and the guitar (despite his 1987 accident). The Montreal performance was so complete, you wouldn’t miss for a moment the drums or anything.
You can get tickets for the Athens concert by calling 210 3241323, or at Virgin megastores, or at Syntagma square (prices start from 30 E and reach the 70).
Here are some views I agree with: “The highest compliment Roger can be paid is that he probably sounds better live today than in the recording studio more than a generation ago…The prolonged standing ovation received echoed around the hall for ages.” ~Evening Standard “There are few vocalists instantly recognizable from the first few bars of a song but Roger Hodgson is certainly one of that unique group. The singer/songwriter of Supertramp, his voice is as unmistakable as the distinct keyboard sound of his early hits.” ~The Times
