Increase of tourism, more duties for the Greek government
Following her meeting with the Prime Minister of Greece, Minister of Tourism voiced her satisfaction on the increase of tourism this year. The Minister described 2006 as “a special year for tourism,” since arrivals in airports and hotel bookings have increased. What is more, she noted that there has been good coordination between all ministries, a fact which was proved by intensive checks of relevant bodies on quality matters in services and combat of profiteering.
Petralia stated that the increase of tourism does not ease the worries of the Ministry, but actually creates bigger duties. As per figures of the Attica Hoteliers Association, the average bookings of hotels in the prefecture presented an increase of 10% in the first semester of 2006, however, as the Minister stated, the analytical figures will be made public in the end of the season.
